California Mechatronics Center

We provide a path to automating one of your manual production or assembly manufacturing processes when your own personnel either will never get to the project because they are swamped with higher priority projects, or they just do not have the expertise to know what to do next.

Many times buying a machine isn’t really an option because your process is too specific to your product, or the machines you can buy do way too much for your needs. And sending the project out to a system integrator for a custom machine is probably not justified.

By combining our Director’s career-long expertise in automation projects (don’t be fooled by our association with Chico State, its not all academia over here), and a unique resource in upper-division Mechatronic Engineering Students, we can usually find a way to use the resources you have available, and supplement with our automation expertise and inexpensive (supervised) student labor.

Get help with the automation part of the design, that missing piece you need to get the project going. You provide what you have available already - fabricating the machine, wiring, ordering from bill of materials, welding the frame. We provide the automation expertise - analysis and design, wiring diagram, bill of materials & programming. From just doing your motor sizing to designing a complete machine, be involved in your project to the extent of your choosing. Save money and stay connected by doing much of the project in-house.

Specialties and/or Certifications

  • Chico State has a unique accredited degree in Mechatronic Engineering (MECA) found in only a few schools nationwide. Its the only one with an industrial focus.
  • Upper Division MECA students must also take MECA 486 which is a senior level class in Motion Control and Machine Automation.
