JOB SUMMARY

Use technical skill and experience to design and develop new products, while provide engineering support for Weiss McNair’s existing nut harvesting machinery.

WHO WE ARE

Weiss McNair designs and builds cutting-edge mobile agricultural products for the rapidly growing nut industry. Started in 1966, the company has developed a line of products spanning harvesters, sweepers and blowers that target a wide variety of nut crops including, almonds, walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts, macadamia, cashews, chestnuts and jojoba beans. Our equipment is sold in the nut growing regions of the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Australia, Spain, France, Italy and Israel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
• Create new and improve existing 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks
• Work collaboratively with other design engineers as part of the product development team
• Work with manufacturing engineering to resolve production issues and improve documentation
• Create schematics for mobile electrical and hydraulic systems
• Create and maintain the operation, service and replacement parts manuals
• Improve the accuracy of SolidWorks drawings and ERP system bill of materials
• Review ECOs prior to release for part form, fit, function and documentation accuracy
• Perform activities in the factory or field environment following Company safety guidelines

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education/experience
• 0 to 3 years’ experience as an engineer in a product development or manufacturing environment
• Application and interpretation of drawing tolerances, GD&T and weld symbols
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Awareness of time constraints, urgency, and on-time performance of all duties
• Proficient with CAD part/assembly modeling and drafting — preferably SolidWorks
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Visio and Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat

OTHER DESIRABLE SKILLS

• Mechatronic (electromechanical) experience
• Object-oriented programming experience
• Industry experience
• Electrical system design and documentation experience, primarily 12 VDC
• Hydraulic system design and documentation experience
• SolidWorks routing, FEA Simulation and Flow Simulation
• ERP/MRP system experience — preferably Epicor

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Fast-paced, hands-on, product development environment with cutting-edge design and fabrication technologies addressing the needs of a rapidly growing market. Job duties are performed in an office, shop, production and/or field environment utilizing standard equipment, such as a computer, test equipment, photocopier, telephone, hand tools and fabrication equipment. Noise level can be moderate to loud, based on specific activities. While performing the duties of this job, the employee can work near moving mechanical parts and/or heavy fabrication equipment and can be exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and/or hazardous chemicals. When required to be in the field conditions can be seasonally dusty and hot or cold.
