This course is FREE, no charge for attending!!
This introductory course will provide hands-on experience plus classroom instruction to prepare adults (18+) for entry level Machinist employment with companies such as Lentec, Bell Carter, PCM, QRC, Sierra Pacific, Pactiv, Louisiana Pacific, Crain, etc.
According to the Employment Development department, the average wage for machinists in Northern California is $15-20 per hour.
Course Description: Introduction to the manufacturing environment and machining/forming processes. Topics will include safety techniques; manufacturing documentation; product drawings and dimensions; experimenting with machine feeds and speeds; use of precision measuring instruments (such as layout tools, mircometers, and gauges); machining; heat-treating various metals; laying out machine parts; cutting, forming, fastening, and finishing machined components; understanding casting, forging, molding, cold forming, and shearing processes. Students will complete projects based on real life manufacturing activities and products. Emphasis will be placed on design interpretation (reading blueprints) and quality assurance verification. Students who meet all attendance and course requirements will earn a certificate of proficiency.
