Local manufacturers launch youth job training initiative

Local manufacturers around the Sacramento Valley have started work on the Sacramento Valley Manufacturing Intiative, based off the structure of the North State Grow Manufacturing Initiative (GMI). This initiative aims to create a workforce trained in modern manufacturing practices. According to Kevin McGrew, director of quality managment in Siemens’ Mobility division, the initiative intends to replace the soon-retiring manufacturing workforce. Siemens’ plant manufactures trains, rail cars  and light rail trains. As McGrew describes it, the plant is “full of gray beards.”

The effort plans to create manufacturing curriculum for high school and college students to replace the outdated material used today.
